Reconnecting with Nature - and yourself ...

I had the pleasure of leading a 'Mindfulness in the Woods' event with Jack Raven Bushcraft recently - here are some highlights.

The day dawned sunny and warm, as our group gathered for the short walk through fields to the woodland basecamp. As we walked, we began to let go of the everyday world and started to notice Nature all around us - the birdsong, butterflies, fragrant elderflowers, softness of the grass underfoot ... a perfect start to the day ahead.

Upon arrival in the woods, we were given a warm welcome by Gary and Nicola from Jack Raven Bushcraft - and greeted just as enthusiastically by Willow the dog!

After a short briefing and orientation of the woodland site, we started to attune all of our senses to the stunning natural surroundings, through mindfulness practice. We were then able to bring this mindful awareness to see, touch, smell and taste the array of wonderful edible wild herbs and plants which we found on our foraging walk, expertly led by Gary and Nicola.

Back at basecamp, Nicola prepared some beautiful herbal infusions:

We drank these mindfully together, so we could savour and fully appreciate the unique aroma and flavour of each 'tea'.

After a guided group meditation ...

... we enjoyed a delicious wild food lunch, which included many of the freshly-foraged wild herbs

The afternoon was spent immersing ourselves in the stunning ancient woodlands and savouring it through all of our senses through mindful awareness, as well as techniques from other ancient cultures. The day concluded with a nourishing 'Nature Meditation', lying down on the warm Earth and appreciating the natural elements - those around us ... and those innately within us as human beings too.

We all left the woods with a profound sense of balance, peace and harmony - having reconnected, not just with Nature but with ourselves too
